US Banks
Connect a US bank account through Stripe Financial Connections, and Expensicat brings in its last 90 days of transactions and new ones every day after that.
Your bank, in Stripe's window
Under Settings → Bank accounts → Connect bank, or at the bank step during onboarding, choose United States as the country, and Connect a US bank opens Stripe's window over Expensicat, where you find your bank, sign in with it and pick the accounts to share. Back in Expensicat, the account picker lists them with their balances, and the ones you leave out are disconnected at Stripe right away, so Expensicat keeps access only to the accounts you connect. Each balance comes from your bank when you connect and moves with the transactions that post afterwards, and Expensicat asks the bank for it again once a month.
What comes in
Connecting brings in the last 90 days of posted transactions, which Expensicat categorizes and matches like any other bank's, and after that new ones arrive with Stripe's daily refresh and Expensicat's own sync twice a day (pending transactions once they post). A bank can stop sharing data after a changed password, revoked access or a request to sign in again, and the connection then shows Connection expired and notifies the workspace owner. If Stripe regains access, the connection comes back without you doing anything, and otherwise Reconnect links the bank again as new accounts while the expired ones keep their history.
What it doesn't do
Expensicat asks Stripe for balances and transactions only, not your account and routing numbers or the owner's details, and it can't move money. US accounts have no IBAN, so they can't be the bank details printed on your invoices, and you pick your bank in Stripe's window rather than from Expensicat's bank list. European banks still connect through GoCardless (in beta), and any bank can still come in through a statement import from Transactions.
New4
- Banking
- Owners and admins can connect a US bank account through Stripe Financial Connections, from Settings → Bank accounts → Connect bank or the bank step in onboarding
- Choose United States as the country and Connect a US bank opens Stripe's window, where you find your bank, sign in and pick accounts (saving them with Link is optional)
- Back in Expensicat, the account picker shows the linked accounts with their balances, and any you leave out are disconnected at Stripe right away
- Connecting brings in the last 90 days of posted transactions, and new ones arrive when Stripe refreshes the account each day and on Expensicat's sync twice a day
Improvements4
- Banking
- Transactions from a US bank get everything Expensicat already does with bank transactions, including categories, receipt and bill matching, recurring payments, suppliers and notifications
- A US connection shows Connection expired and notifies the workspace owner when the bank stops sharing data, and comes back by itself if Stripe regains access
- Reconnect on an expired US connection links the bank again as new accounts, while the expired accounts keep their history
- Disconnecting a US bank ends Stripe's access, whether you keep its history or remove the connection
API1
- Banking
- Activating accounts on a bank connection with POST /v1/bank/connections/{id}/accounts now takes the provider from the connection, and the provider field in the request is ignored
