Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: May 25, 2026

This Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") governs your use of Expensicat and is part of our Terms and Conditions. It exists to keep the Service safe, lawful, and reliable for everyone. Violating it may result in suspension or termination of your account.

1. General Conduct

You may use the Service only for lawful business purposes and in compliance with all applicable laws and these policies. You are responsible for all activity under your account and for the content and data you submit.

2. Prohibited Activities

You must not use the Service to:

  • Break the law or facilitate illegal activity, or infringe the rights (including intellectual property and privacy rights) of others.
  • Commit financial crime — including money laundering, fraud, terrorist financing, sanctions evasion, or processing data connected to such activity.
  • Upload harmful content — malware, viruses, or any code designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to systems or data.
  • Send spam or unsolicited bulk communications, or harvest contact information for such purposes.
  • Compromise security — attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or related systems, or interfere with or disrupt the Service's integrity or performance.
  • Reverse engineer decompile, or attempt to derive the source code of the Service, except where permitted by law.

3. API, CLI, and Workspace Access

  • Do not exceed published rate limits or circumvent technical restrictions, quotas, or access controls.
  • Do not use automated means to scrape, replicate, or resell the Service or its data, or to build a competing product.
  • Keep API keys and credentials confidential; you are responsible for activity performed with them.

4. AI Features

The Service includes AI features such as the assistant "Cat", receipt transcription, and automated insights. You must not:

  • Use AI features to generate unlawful, harmful, deceptive, or infringing content.
  • Attempt to extract underlying models or training data, or use outputs to train competing models.
  • Present AI outputs as professional financial, tax, accounting, or legal advice, or as human-authored where that would be misleading. You remain responsible for reviewing AI outputs (see Section 6 of the Terms).

5. Enforcement

We may investigate suspected violations and may suspend or terminate access, remove content, or take other action we consider appropriate. Where a violation poses a risk to the Service or others, we may act without prior notice.

6. Reporting

To report abuse or a suspected violation of this policy, contact [email protected].
